MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
June 2008

The Reunion Music Society has just completed another very successful year bringing music of many genres to the ears of the faithful audience.

We are most proud of what is truly a "community orchestra" with a stage almost filled to overflowing with talented and dedicated musicians. Under the leadership of our maestro, Christopher Johnson, we have continued to grow and to attract larger audiences.

We have increased our offerings by adding more of the Jazz component. Most recently the presentation of "Women in Jazz" was well received by our dedicated audience at the performance in the Forum. If you were not there you missed a wonderful Sunday afternoon treat. Please see our newsletter for future Jazz listening opportunities.

One of our winners of the Lafayette Jackson Scholarship for bass players, Ms. Wesley Thompson, included in her college application letter about her Best Music Experience that being in the Annandale Symphony Orchestra was a life-changing experience -- she liked the rapport and felt like a part of the orchestra.

One of the violinists commented to me recently that she has been in other community orchestras and this is the best one; that Mr. Johnston is so easy to work with and treats the orchestra members like equals.

As a member of the audience you can feel that the orchestra members are truly enjoying the experience of playing and delighting audiences. I certainly look forward to all of our upcoming concerts and hope you will not only join us but spread the word - the best form of advertising!!!!

Pat Sawhney
President, the Reunion Music Society

RMS Receives Grant from Arts Council

RMS was notified last December that it had been awarded a 2008 Arts Council of Fairfax County grant of $6,020 for operational support. Funds were made available from a special set-aside for the arts by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The Society appreciates this support and is especially pleased to learn that the Arts Council grant review panel recognized our commitment to continue bringing quality programming to the community and to our dedication to reach out to diverse populations. The panel also noted the strong leadership of the Society’s Board of Directors and the many volunteers who assist us in so many ways.
