NVCC - Annandale Symphony Orchestra

Our Current Conductor - Christopher Johnston

Chris As current conductor of the NVCC-Annandale Symphony Orchestra, Christopher Johnston over the past years has skillfully guided the orchestra to its present position of musical achievement. Through his musicality and vision, the orchestra has grown in size and repertoire, playing music of different cultures and heritages, and achieving a reputation for artistic excellence.

Johnston has composed music for chorus, string orchestra, and jazz band at the high school, college and professional levels. In 1986, his composition "Prelude and Fugue on a Welsh Tune" was selected for televised performance by the Northern Virginia Regional Youth Orchestra. In addition to conducting the NVCC-Annandale Symphony Orchestra, Johnston is also an adjunct faculty member and an Applied Music instructor at the Annandale Campus. He served for many years as Director of Music at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Fairfax, Virginia, and is in frequent demand as composer, conductor and piano recitalist.

Meet Lorin Goodrich, RMS New Executive Director

Lorin Goodrich was hired as the RMS executive director on November 10, 2005. He brings to the position a long association with NVCC-Annandale and many years of administrative experience. Lorin is an eight-year member of the Lifetime Learning Institute (LLI), a non-profit member-run organization affiliated with the college that offers a variety of continuing education opportunities for adults 50 years and over. He has served as LLI's president, vice president, and is its principal liaison with the NVCC faculty who volunteer teaching time.

With his wife, Janet, Lorin has ushered for over nine years at the Kennedy Center. They also ushered at the Warner Theater for over five years. During his 34 years of Federal government service Lorin managed numerous administrative functions such as finance, contracting, personnel, facilities management, publishing, management information systems, and information security. Lorin is active in the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), and he reads material into tape for the visually impaired.
